Contraband Arrests at Telfair and Montgomery State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 922 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On January 28, visitor Nadia Garssino was attempting to enter to the front bunker at Telfair State Prison, but was unable to clear the facility's body scanner. After consenting to a search of her person, a small bundle of contraband wrapped in black electrical was discovered. The bundle consisted of 54 grams of marijuana. Telfair County Sheriff’s Department arrested visitor Garrison.

On January 29, Montgomery County Sheriff Office arrested visitor Connie Greene at Montgomery State Prison after leads were developed pertaining to her dropping off contraband. She arrived at Montgomery State Prison to visit an offender and a search of her vehicle was conducted. The following contraband was discovered: 48 small bags of tobacco weighing 40.30 ounces, 4 lighters, 4 packs of rolling paper and 10 rolls of black electrical tape.
