Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,173 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On January 13 at Valdosta State Prison, visitor Penelope Drake was arrested after consenting to a search. Security staff discovered 28 grams of methamphetamine and 23 grams of marijuana. Drake was arrested by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.

On January 13 at Hays State Prison, visitor Miya Jones was arrested after consenting to a search. Security staff discovered 2 packages wrapped in clear package. Jones was arrested by the Office of Professional Standards and transported to the Chattooga County Jail.

On January 13 at Hancock State Prison, Officer Jasmine Hall was arrested after security staff noticed 3 water bottles with a false insert in her bag. The bottles contained an unknown amount of marijuana, an unknown amount of methamphetamine and an unknown number of pills. Hall was arrested by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.

On January 12 at Calhoun State Prison, Officer Helen Washington was arrested after security staff noticed a square shaped object in her food container. Security staff found 201 grams of tobacco. Washington was arrested by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

On January 11 at Hancock State Prison, Officer Montarius Holliman was arrested after consenting to a vehicle search. Security staff discovered a bottle with a false bottom containing a small package wrapped in gray duct tape. Holliman was arrested by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.
