Contraband Arrest at Hancock State Prison

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 997 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On October 21, at Hancock State Prison, a Sergeant noticed a strong smell of marijuana as visitor Amandria Ragin entered the visitation area to visit an offender. Visitor Ragin was immediately escorted out of the visitation area and into the lobby area. Visitor Ragin refused a search of her person, but contraband was found on the sofa where she was sitting. The contraband consisted of 23 small balloons of marijuana. Visitor Ragin was arrested by Hancock County Sheriff's Department for crossing the guard line with contraband.
