As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 772 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
- On September 28, at Wilcox State Prison, a person was observed in the woodline area attempting to throw a package over the fence. Officers apprehended parolee Tommy Lane and the package was recovered. It contained 17 flip phones, 7 smart phones, 16 batteries and 22 chargers. Lane was arrested by the Abbeville Police Department.
- On October 3, at Dodge State Prison, visitor Angel Fleming was observed passing contraband to an inmate during visitation. The inmate was searched and tobacco was discovered wrapped in plastic wrap. Angel Fleming arrested by Dodge County Sheriff's Department at Dodge State Prison.
- On October 4, at Smith State Prison, visitor Jessica Jabar was searched after failing several times to clear the metal detector. While being searched two cellphones and three tubes of gorilla glue were discovered in the wig that she was wearing. She was arrested by Glennville Sheriff’s Department.
- On October 4, at Rutledge State Prison, visitor Hope Trawick walked to the microwave in the visitation area and a bag of marijuana fell out from underneath her shirt. The contraband was recovered and she was arrested by Columbus Sheriff’s Department.
