Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 743 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

  1. On July 4, 2015, at Telfair State Prison, Officer Ambria Jackson attempted to bring contraband into the facility. The contraband, 4.2 ounces of marijuana, one bundle of tobacco and one bundle of cigarette paper, was concealed in the bottom section of a cookie bag. Jackson was arrested by the Telfair County Sheriff’s Department.
  2. On July 6, 2015, outside Calhoun State Prison, three individuals were stopped on Hwy 45 by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department for a traffic violation. After a search of the vehicle, 44 bundles of tobacco wrapped in electrical tape and a plastic bag containing loose tobacco was found. The individuals had intent to introduce the contraband into Calhoun State Prison. The individuals, Latonya Peacock, Walter McGill and LeAllen Jackson were arrested by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department.

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
