As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 725 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
- On March 22, 2015 at Smith State Prison, staff became aware that food service worker Shannon Cummings was going to attempt to bring marijuana into the facility this day. Upon arrival to work, Cummings consented to a search and 4.3 ounces of marijuana was found on her person. Shannon Cummings was arrested by the Glennville Police Department.
- On March 23, 2015 at Dooly State Prison, after finding a small bundle of tobacco lying on the ground at a work site, staff searched Officer Jalam Redding. A Buglar pack of tobacco was found on his person. Redding was arrested by the Dooly County Sheriffâ€™s Department.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
