As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 690 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On September 21, 2014 at Valdosta State Prison a staff member contacted the facility upon their departure. The staff member realized they had taken the wrong jacket home after noticing a suspicious envelope in one of the pockets. The jacket was secured and searched by Internal Affairs. It was determined that the jacket belonged to Officer Anekra Williams. The envelope within the jacket contained $300.00 cash, approximately one ounce of Methamphetamine, and 77 pills. Officer Williams was arrested by the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
