As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 666 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

  1. On June 2, 2014, an investigation led to the arrest of Correctional Officer Terry Girtman for the attempt to purchase and distribute marijuana at Dodge State Prison. Georgia Department of Corrections' (GDC) Intelligence Unit received information that Officer Girtman had been introducing marijuana into Dodge State Prison with the intent to continue distribution to inmates. Officer Girtman was caught by GDC Intelligence officers when he completed a transaction of illegal substances at a convenience store near the facility. After the transaction was complete, the Lauren County Sheriff's Department moved in to make the arrest.
