Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 566 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
1) On September 28, 2013 at Smith State Prison, a visual search was conducted of visitor Tiya Rachelle Spencer during visitation. Officers found a quarter of an ounce of marijuana on her person. Visitor Spencer was arrested by the Glennville Police Department.
2) On September 29, 2013 at Georgia State Prison, a K-9 search of visitor Renada Joiner's vehicle revealed her to be in possession of 0.75 oz. of marijuana. Visitor Joiner was arrested by the Georgia State Patrol.
3) On September 29, 2013 at Georgia State Prison, visitor Trista Stanley was arrested for possession of 0.75 oz. of marijuana and carrying a concealed weapon across a guard line. Visitor Stanley was arrested by Georgia State Patrol.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
