As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 511 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
1) On May 25, 2013, a vehicle was spotted traveling slowly around Dooly State Prison. The tag number of the vehicle was called into the Dooly County Sheriff’s Department and a stop was conducted. The vehicle contained three passengers, Sharon Guiford, Freddie L. Knight and Guiford’s seven year old daughter. Officers found 16 cellphones wrapped in black tape, four cell phone charges, two lbs. of tobacco and three tubes of super glue. Guiford and Knight planned to drop off the contraband for an inmate. Guiford and Knight were arrested and the child was released to family members.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
