As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 478 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

1) On March 6, 2013 at Coffee Correctional Facility, civilians Marvin Epps and Wanda Duncan were arrested by the Coffee County Sheriff's Office. They were arrested after they attempted to introduce contraband into the facility by throwing footballs over the facility fence. Contraband consisted of 10 cell phones, 10 chargers and tobacco.

2) On March 6, 2013, Food Service Worker Rebecca Trbovick was arrested by the Glennville Police Department after she admitted that on two occasions she brought a total of $950 for an inmate at Smith State Prison. She also admitted to sending Green Dot card numbers to said inmate. Trbovick was arrested for trading with inmates.

3) On March 9, 2013, a Dooly State Prison inmate was observed receiving two objects wrapped in black electrical tape from his visitor Elisabeth Piazzi. Upon searching the inmate, the two objects containing marijuana were confiscated. Visitor Piazzi was arrested by the Dooly County Sheriff's Department. Dooly State Prison officers discovered a third package of marijuana on inmate Piazzi after a search of his person.

4) On March 10, 2013, visitor Charlene Bailey attempted to enter Post 1 at Telfair State Prison for weekend visitation. The Post 1 Officer smelled the odor of marijuana and asked visitor Bailey to consent to a search. Visitor Bailey complied and officers found four small balloons filled with marijuana. The Helena Police Department was notified and apprehended visitor Bailey. Visitor Bailey's car was searched and officers found a box cutter, a Green Dot card and marijuana residue.

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
