Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 443 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

1) On December 27, 2012, civilian Mallory Phillips was stopped by Tattnall County Sheriff's Department for a traffic citation. During the traffic stop, she stated that there was tobacco in the back seat and that it was to be dropped off at Rogers State Prison. There was a book bag on the backseat containing 12 packs of Bugler tobacco and six cell phones. Phillips and her passenger, Matthew Richardson, were arrested.

2) On December 30, 2012, staff at Smith State Prison received a tip that visitor Misty Riggs would attempt to bring drugs into the prison. She was removed from visitation and consented to a search. She handed over 11 balloons filled with marijuana and was taken into custody by the Glennville Police Department.

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
