Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 401 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state. 


1) On October 6, 2012, Visitor LaShay LaShone Walker was arrested by the Glennville Police Department after Smith State Prison officers observed Visitor Walker with five (5) balloons containing marijuana. Glennville Police searched Visitor Walker's vehicle and found more balloons along with heroin, cocaine and tobacco.

2) On October 6, 2012, Visitor Erica Nicole Ewing was arrested by the Lee County Police Department after Lee State Prison officers observed Visitor Ewing passing tobacco to an inmate.

3) On October 6, 2012, Visitor Latrece Bean was found to have a small amount of marijuana wrapped in electrical tape while in visitation. The Chattooga County Sheriff's Department was contacted and arrested Visitor Bean.

4) On October 6, 2012, Visitor Charles Falls began acting suspicious during visitation and asked an officer if he could use the restroom. After staying in the restroom for five minutes, an officer inspected it. The officer noticed a strong marijuana smell. The officer removed Visitor Falls from the visitation area and conducted a search. Visitor Falls had 32 balls of marijuana wrapped in latex. The Calhoun County Sheriff's Department arrested Visitor Falls.

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
