Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 397 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state. ​​​​​​​​


1) On September 29, 2012, Smith State Prison Officers noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from Visitor Angela Moore. Visitor Moore refused a search of her person. The Glennville Police Department was notified and took Visitor Moore into custody for probable cause. Visitor Moore was searched at the police station and three (3) packages of marijuana weighing seven (7) ounces and one (1) pack of cigar tobacco was found on her person.

2) On September 29, 2012, Visitor Ocie Walker smelled of marijuana. The Hays State Prison CERT Team questioned Visitor Walker and he admitted that he had 23 balloons of marijuana on his person. The Chattooga Sheriff's Office was notified and Visitor Walker was arrested without incident.

3) On September 30, 2012, a vehicle was observed turning into DOT headquarters. Visitor Toni Marie Dunn was observed exiting her vehicle, placing a white plastic bag into a drain and then driving into the Harris County Prison parking lot. The bag contained two (2) rolls of tobacco wrapped in plastic, two (2) cell phones with chargers, one (1) brown bag containing marijuana, two (2) packs of rolling papers and two (2) flavored blunt strips. The Harris County Sheriff's Department was notified and Visitor Dunn was placed under arrest.

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
