Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
On Tuesday, February 22, 2011, Nicolas Tellis and Carl Beard were arrested at Rogers State Prison in Reidsville. Information was obtained that a possible contraband drop would be made that day. A stakeout was conducted and an SUV was stopped on prison property. Cell phones and cigars were discovered when the vehicle was searched. The Tattnall County Sheriff's Office assisted.
On Saturday, February 26, 2011, Tavia Morgan and Amaya Peters were arrested at Hays State Prison in Trion. They were at the facility to visit an inmate when an officer conducted a routine vehicle search and discovered marijuana in the passenger seat. The Chattooga County Sheriff's Department assisted.
On Saturday, February 26, 2011, Robert Felix was arrested at Augusta State Medical Prison in Augusta. Officers caught Felix, a former inmate, trying to throw contraband over the fence to an inmate. The contraband included cell phones, tobacco and marijuana. The Richmond County Sheriff's Department assisted.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
