Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities

Scott Barnes, Food Service Supervisor, was arrested at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson last month. Barnes was unable to clear the metal detector and an officer found a cell phone wrapped in duct tape in his possession. His vehicle was searched and an officer found a cell phone charger wrapped in duct tape.

An arrest warrant was issued for Kim McMillian last month. McMillian was at Georgia Diagnostic & Classification Prison in Jackson to visit an inmate. An officer observed her as she placed two packages into a hole in an elevator shaft. The packages contained tobacco.

On Sunday, January 16, 2011, Michelle Leshay, Ralph Lee McBride and Javon Boatright were arrested at Smith State Prison in Glennville. An officer observed an object being thrown from the vehicle they were in. The officer found a football containing cell phones, SIM cards, batteries, cell phone chargers and packs of rolling paper. The Glennville Police Department assisted.

On Tuesday, January 25, 2011, Kebo Walton and Shannon McKinney were arrested at Rogers State Prison in Reidsville. An officer observed Walton and McKinney exiting a vehicle with two packages. When instructed to stop, the packages were dropped and the men attempted to flee. They were later found in the woods and arrested by Tattnall County Sheriff's Department. In the packages were 47 cell phones, 44 charges, 26 packs of tobacco and four large plastic bags of tobacco. Dominique Maridy was later arrested for driving the vehicle the men were riding in.

On Thursday, January 27, 2011, Jacalvious Ricks was arrested by the West Point Police Department. Ricks walked towards an inmate work detail from Troup County Prison and an officer observed him drop a bag on the ground. The officer retrieved the bag and found marijuana.

On Friday, January 28, 2011, Tericka White was arrested by the LaGrange Police Department. White was observed dropping off items at an inmate work detail. Charges against her include distribution of marijuana.

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
