Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 712 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

  1. On January 10, 2015, visitors Erica Hildebrand, Halie Montgomery and Mary Presley attended visitation at Calhoun State Prison. During visitation when visitor Montgomery exited the restroom, staff noticed a small bag of marijuana in the trashcan inside the restroom. When staff questioned the visitor, she stated she was sick and needed to go back into the restroom. Upon reentering the restroom, visitor Montgomery pulled another bag of marijuana, wrapped in plastic, from her shirt and attempted to discard it into the trashcan. Total weight of marijuana discarded by Montgomery was 6.3 ounces. Visitor Montgomery was arrested by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s office. Visitors, Erica Hildebrand and Mary Presley, were then questioned by staff regarding the drug incident of visitor Montgomery.  Visitors Erica Hildebrand and Mary Presley consented to a search and a small packet, wrapped with white medical tape, was found hidden on Erica Hildebrand’s person. Hildebrand stated the packet was a Suboxone patch used for withdrawals. No items were found on visitor Mary Presley’s person. Their vehicle was also searched and staff found two green dot cards, one rush card and three cell phones within the vehicle. Visitors Mary Presley and Erica Hidlebrand were also arrested by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
