Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 694 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.​

1. On October 16, 2014 at Valdosta State Prison, Officer Tyree Mitchell attempted to enter the facility when staff discovered two packs of Buglar tobacco in Officer Mitchell’s front pockets. Officer Mitchell was arrested by the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office.

2. On October 18, 2014 at Valdosta State Prison, Officer Mason Fender reported for duty. Staff discovered two bundles of tobacco (approximately two ounces total) taped to the inside of Officer Fender’s sandwich. Officer Fender was arrested by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.

3. On October 18, 2014 the K-9 unit was performing searches on visitor vehicles at Autry State Prison. K-9 alerted on two visitors; Raven Colbert (3.4 ounces of marijuana discovered on her person) and Trisha Ford (2.6 ounces of marijuana discovered on her person). Both Colbert and Ford were arrested by the Mitchell County Sheriff’s office.

 

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
