Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 676 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
- On July 27, 2014 at Hancock State Prison, during visitation staff observed an object attempting to be passed from visitor Daquaashire Johnson to an inmate. Staff removed the inmate and visitor Johnson from visitation and conducted a search on their persons. The search resulted in no items being found on the inmate and nine balloons of marijuana (.06 ounces in total) being found on visitor Johnson. The Hancock County Sheriffâ€™s office arrested visitor Johnson.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
