Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
**MORE THAN 640 CIVILIANS AND 125 STAFF MEMBERS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED TO DATE FOR ATTEMPTING TO INTRODUCE CONTRABAND INTO GDC FACILITIES.**
1) On September 9, 2013 at Telfair State Prison, civilian Ryan Towns was arrested by the Telfair County Sheriff's Office for dropping off contraband on facility property. The contraband consisted of 16 cell phones, five phone chargers, one packet of tobacco and one pair of bolt cutters.
2) On September 11, 2013 at Hays State Prison, Officer Randy Wheeler was caught by the CERT team attempting to bring in 4 oz. of marijuana. Officer Wheeler was arrested by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department and charged with possession of marijuana, intent to distribute and attempting to introduce contraband inside a prison guard line.
3) On September 12, 2013 at Autry State Prison, Officer Yahri Robinson was found to be in possession of three balls of substances. The Mitchell County Sheriff's Department was contacted and Officer Robinson was arrested. The three balls of substances contained 1.5 oz of powder, 1.5 oz of meth and 0.8 oz of marijuana.
4) On September 14, 2013 at Smith State Prison, a search of Officer Sonja Washington's vehicle was conducted. Officers found four cell phones, two SIM cards, two cell phone batteries, one cell phone refill card, four cell phone chargers, two plastic cell phone back covers, seven green dot cards, one Walmart Rapid Replacement Plan card, one Walmart gift card and ten debit cards. Officer Washington was arrested by the Glennville Police Department.
