Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 522 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

1) On June 21, 2013 at Roger State Prison, K9 Sergeant was conducting surveillance on the prison reservation. The Sgt. observed a vehicle swerve across the yellow line and initiated a stop. The driver of the car was civilain Brian Frantom. While talking to civilian Franton, the Sgt. observed a large clear bag in the rear floor board. The bag appeared to contain tobacco. The Tattnall County Sheriff's Department arrived on the scene and the civilians consented to a search. Officers found one clear bag containing multiple smaller bags of tobacco as well as a black bookbag which contained three more large clear bags of tobacco. In all, 69 packages of tobacco was confiscated. Civilian Franton was arrested.

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
