Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities

**MORE THAN 585 CIVILIANS AND 110 STAFF MEMBERS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED TO DATE FOR ATTEMPTING TO INTRODUCE CONTRABAND INTO GDC FACILITIES.**

1) On April 23, 2013 at Rogers State Prison, a Lieutenant with the Reidsville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a white, 2005 Ford Expedition. The driver was identified as Christopher Hancock. While talking with the driver, the officer observed a white plastic bag on the passenger floor board between the feet of Jennifer Odum. The officer asked Odum what was in the bag and she stated "it was tobacco, you can see." The officer found 24 packs of tobacco wrapped with black electrical tape. Another rear passenger was identified as Thomas Lightcap. An inmate at Rogers State Prison said the tobacco was being delivered to the reservation for him. All occupants were placed under arrest and transported to the Tattnall County Jail.

2) On April 28, 2013 at Smith State Prison, while conducting a search of an inmate, a Sergeant found and confiscated two packages wrapped in black tape inside the inmate's boots. Upon questioning the inmate, the inmate stated his visitor brought them to him. The visitor, Lindsay Scwell, was searched upon receipt of a signed consent form. No contraband was found on her person. Glennville Police Department took Scwell into custody.

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
