Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities

**MORE THAN 558 CIVILIANS AND 97 STAFF MEMBERS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED TO DATE FOR ATTEMPTING TO INTRODUCE CONTRABAND INTO GDC FACILITIES.**

1) On February 2, 2013, an inmate at Johnson State Prison was found with marijuana, tobacco and pills on his person after a shakedown of the visitation room. Upon questioning, it was revealed that visitor Caress Underdue brought the contraband to the inmate. Underdue was arrested by the Johnson County Sheriff�s Department.

2) On February 3, 2013, Valdosta State Prison Visitor Donald Merck was caught by staff passing THC to an inmate. Merck was arrested by Lowndes County Sheriff�s Office.

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
