Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 455 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
1) On January 28, 2013, Visitor Tonya Marie McClinic could not clear the metal detector at Georgia Diagnostic & Classification Prison. McClinic consented to a search and five candy bars were found on her person. Upon further review of the items, staff found that the candy bars were filled with loose tobacco and marijuana. The Butts County Sheriff's Department arrested McClinic.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
