Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
**MORE THAN 525 CIVILIANS AND 94 STAFF MEMBERS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED TO DATE FOR ATTEMPTING TO INTRODUCE CONTRABAND INTO GDC FACILITIES.**
1) On December 16, 2012, during visitation at Valdosta State Prison an inmate was observed stuffing an item into his shirt. Officers removed the inmate from visitation and searched him. Officers found two (2) bundles wrapped in electrical tape containing tobacco and marijuana. The Lowndes County Sheriff's Department was notified and the inmates visitor, Kenya Brown was arrested.
2) On December 16, 2012, visitor Cleaster Simpson arrived at Telfair State Prison to visit an inmate. Upon entering the front entry building, officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana. The visitor was asked to submit to a search, but refused. The Helena Police Department was notified and upon their arrival a vehicle search was conducted. Visitor Simpson advised police that she had smoked a joint prior to her arrival. During the search, police found a taser and she was arrested for bringing a weapon across the guard line. Upon being processed into the local jail, a small package of cocaine and five (5) packages of marijuana were found on her person.
