Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
1) On July 25, 2012, after an investigation was conducted concerning personal dealings with Officer Robert Mowell, he admitted to providing contraband to his outside detail inmates since 2011. Officer Mowell, a Hancock State Prison officer, was arrested for providing tobacco, soft drinks, food, Camel cigarettes and gum to the inmates. Officer Mowell was arrested by the Hancock County Sheriff's Department.
2) On July 28, 2012, Visitor Sakeitha Waters was observed passing eight (8) balloons (1/4 ounce) of marijuana during visitation at Calhoun State Prison. Visitor Waters was arrested by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office.
3) On July 28, 2012, two men were apprehended while attempting to drop off contraband at Johnson State Prison. An officer observed Probationer Richard Kodak walking towards the shed under the water tower and told him to stop. Probationer Kodak was in possession of two (2) baseball sized packages wrapped in black tape. The packages contained 7.11 ounces of tobacco and rolling papers. Parolee Joshua David Harris was driving the vehicle that dropped off Probationer Kodak. Harris and Kodak were arrested by the Wrightsville Police Department.
4) On July 28, 2012, Visitor Misty Townsend was observed passing contraband during visitation at Ware State Prison. The contraband consisted of three (3) ounces of marijuana. Officers searched visitor Townsend's vehicle and found two (2) cell phones wrapped in tape and more marijuana. Visitor Townsend was arrested by the Ware County Sheriff's Office.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
