Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
1) On June 15, 2012, the Hall County Correctional Institution received a phone call from an Oakwood City Police Officer regarding a few individuals that he had just pulled over. The Officer stated that someone in the vehicle was observed throwing beer to an inmate on work detail. Civilians Matthew Lee Hamby and James Christopher Daniel were arrested.
2) On June 23, 2012, visitor Callan Kendall Guerra was observed dropping balloons of marijuana in the visitation restroom at Ware State Prison. The visitor was detained and searched. Twelve (12) more balloons of marijuana was discovered. Visitor Ashley Nicole Sims left her table and went in the restroom and flushed an item in the toilet. The vehicle that both visitors rode in was searched by K9, CERT and the Ware County Sheriff's Office. Upon searching the driver, Edwin Santiago Ortiz, officers found a small amount of marijuana in his sock. A further search of the vehicle yielded a bag of balloons containing over an ounce of marijuana. The three individuals were arrested by the Ware County Sheriff's Office.
3) On June 23, 2012, visitor Sabrina Henderson was arrested after she attempted to pass 49 balloons filled with marijuana to an inmate during visitation at Ware State Prison. The incident was caught on camera. Visitor Henderson was arrested by the Wilcox Sheriff's Department.
4) On June 24, 2012, a suspicious person was observed and identified as a black male with dark clothing at the Training Center at Smith State Prison. An officer arrived at the Training Center and observed the suspect running north on Birdford Road. The suspect fitting the description of the individual observed at the Training Center was apprehended by the Glennville Police Department. Before apprehending the suspect, the officer noticed that the individual threw a package off of Birdford Road. The package contained six (6) cell phones and two (2) large bags of tobacco. The suspect, General Wright Jr. was arrested by the Glennville Police Department.
