Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
1) On June 13th, a Coffee County Correctional Facility perimeter officer observed a vehicle had passing by the facility several times. The Nicholas Police Department was notified and the vehicle was stopped. Around the same time, a 911 caller reported that two (2) men were seen in the woods adjacent to the facility. The men were located and questioned by the Nicholas PD and facility staff. A search of the facility was conducted and eight (8) one (1) gallon bags of tobacco were found. Each bag contained one (1) cell phone. Rashon Holton and Caquita Smith were arrested, the driver was released. Holton and Smith advised an investigator at the Nichols Police Department that there was an additional handbag on prison property containing five (5) bundles of tobacco and five (5) cell phones.
2) On June 13th, a Tattnall County Deputy conducted a traffic stop on Cedarhaw Road on the Rogers State Prison reservation for failure to maintain lane. During the stop, the Deputy noticed a bag in the back passenger floor board. The bag resembled packages used in contraband drops at the prison. Civilians Brittany Dupree and Lajessica Dix both stated that a Rogers State Prison inmate made arrangements for the drop. The bag contained 34 packages of tobacco, 12 cell phones, two (2) bundles of rolling papers, two (2) rolls of electrical tape and one (1) roll of clear plastic wrap. Dupree and Dix were arrested by the Tattnall County Sheriffâ€™s Office.
3) On June 16th, visitor Tammy Moon was arrested by the Calhoun County Sheriffâ€™s Office for bringing contraband containing two (2) balloons of marijuana into Calhoun State Prison.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
