Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 259 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.​​

 

1) On March 27, 2012, a suspicious vehicle and a black man walking near the guardlines were observed by the Lee State Prison staff. The driver of the vehicle, Alexis Williams, stated she had dropped off Jeremy Russell who had four (4) cell phones. The Lee county Sheriff's Department was notified and Williams was arrested. They confiscated two (2) rolls of electrical tape, a Walmart receipt for two (2) cell phones, and four (4) empty cell phone packages from her car. Williams admitted to Lee County Sheriff Officers that she purchased two (2) of the four (4) cell phones and that Jeremy Russell purchased the other two (2). Jeremy Russell was not apprehended.

2) On March 30, 2012, Visitors Brittany Minter, Evelyn Turner and Brandy Turner were arrested by the Helena Police Department after bringing in 7.5 pounds of tobacco, 84 packs of rolling papers, 112 Hydroxycut pills, 30 Trazodone pills and two (2) wave caps into Telfair State Prison.

3) On March 31, 2012, Visitors Deborah Johnson and Sharon Fetgatter were arrested after the Hays State Prison Canine Unit found a small amount of marijuana hidden in their car. Georgia State Patrol and the local Sheriff's Department assisted with the arrests.

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
