Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 237 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.


1) On February 26, 2012, visitor Dennis Young was arrested by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department for bringing three packs of Bugler tobacco across the guard line at Calhoun State Prison, in an attempt to bring contraband to his son. Visitor Young gave consent for a search of his vehicle. Upon search of vehicle, 1 additional pack of Bugler was found in the glove compartment.

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
