Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities

**MORE THAN 353 CIVILIANS AND 69 STAFF MEMBERS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED TO DATE FOR ATTEMPTING TO INTRODUCE CONTRABAND INTO GDC FACILITIES.**

1) On Wednesday, February 22, 2012, civilians Delana Navarro, Kenneth Bennett, Thomas Clemons and Helen House were arrested by Tattnall County Sheriff's Office. While conducting surveillance on prison reservation, a Rogers State Prison Canine Sergeant observed a suspicious vehicle. The Tattnall County Sheriff's Office was contacted and pulled over the vehicle. The driver consented to a search of the vehicle and a black trash bag containing on plastic bag of tobacco weighing proximately one pound and 17 bags of marijuana weighing approximately two pounds were found.

2) On Sunday, February 26, 2012, Correctional Officer Johnathan Payne failed to clear the metal detector at the front entry building at Dodge State Prison. A package containing 4.3 ounces of marijuana and 7.9 grams of cocaine was found taped to Officer Payne's inner thigh. Four cell phones were, also, found in his drinking cup.

3) On Sunday, February 26, 2012, Correctional Officer Nicholas Wright was arrested by the Dodge County Sheriff's Office for attempting to bring in a pack of tobacco and 56 cigarettes into Dodge State Prison.

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
