Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 220 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.​​​​​

 

1) Kawyng Bentley and Talethea Browman were arrested by the Tattnall County Sheriff's Office. Officers at Rogers State Prison in Reidsville found a tennis ball on prison grounds that contained a cell phone charger.

2) On Sunday, February 12, 2012, Michael Bernard Thomas was arrested by the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at Central State Prison in Macon. Thomas was at the facility visiting an inmate when officers observed him passing items to the inmate. Officers found tobacco and marijuana.

3) On Saturday, February 11, 2012, Tanisha Robertson and Daryl Lucas were arrested by the Helena Police Department at Telfair State Prison in Helena. Lucas was at the facility when the inmate he was visiting admitted Lucas brought him marijuana. Lucas and Robertson came to the facility together and she was observed discarding marijuana in the parking lot.

4) On Sunday, February 12, 2012, Leslie Estes was arrested by the Dooly County Sheriff's Office at Dooly State Prison in Unadilla. Officers observed her hiding tobacco, rolling papers and electrical tape in a ditch in front of the prison. Estes had been at the facility visiting an inmate who was also assigned to work in the area where the contraband items were found.

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
