Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 193 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.​​


1) On Saturday, December 31, 2011, Sherry Bryant was arrested by the Chattooga County Sheriff�s Department at Hays State Prison in Trion after she attempted to enter the facility with marijuana in her possession. Bryant was at the facility to visit an inmate.

2) On Saturday, December 31, 2011, Jasmine Bouie was arrested by the Glennville Police Department at Smith State Prison in Glennville. Bouie was at the facility visiting with an inmate when staff observed the inmate drop a package containing marijuana. Additional marijuana was found in Bouie's possession.

3) On Sunday, January 1, 2012, Officer Trina Scott was arrested by the Hancock County Sheriff�s Department at Hancock State Prison in Sparta after she attempted to enter the facility with two cell phones, cigars and two small packages of marijuana. Scott admitted she was bringing the items for inmates.

4) On Monday, January 2, 2012, Jecika Young and Kristie Bowman were arrested by the Tattnall County Sheriff�s Department at Rogers State Prison in Reidsville after they attempted to leave contraband at the facility. Authorities found bags of tobacco, two cell phones and chargers in their vehicle.

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
