Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
1) On Saturday, October 1, 2011, Jimmy Dale Evans, Sr. was arrested by the Baldwin County Sheriff's Department at Baldwin State Prison in Hardwick. He was at the facility for visitation when he admitted giving tobacco to an inmate.
2) On Sunday, October 2, 2011, Barbara Clarkston was arrested by the Glennville Police Department at Smith State Prison in Glennville. She was at the facility to visit an inmate when officers found 41 balloons of tobacco and two packs of rolling paper in her possession.
3) On Monday, October 3, 2011, Correctional Officer Tamara Lewis was arrested by the Hancock County Sheriff's Office at Hancock State Prison in Sparta. She was attempting to clear a metal detector when two cell phones were found in her possession. Lewis admitted she was bringing the phones to an inmate.
4) On Tuesday, October 4, 2011, Anthony Dudley, Maireco Williams, William Milton, Jeremie Pope, Robert Frazier, Darrin Frazier, Cicely Tyson and Hanh Huynh were arrested by the McRae Police Department, Helena Police Department and Telfair County Sheriff's Office. Two vehicles were pulled over by authorities near Telfair State Prison in Helena after an office there saw two people running from the facility. Correctional Officers found contraband including 20 hacksaw blades, six cell phones, seven cell phone chargers, 26 packs of rolling paper and tobacco. Of the eight people arrested, three are former inmates and two of them are on probation and one is on parole.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
