Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
On Thursday, August 4, 2011, Christopher Briggs, Joseph Hortman, Jennifer Ogletree and Stacy Ogletree were arrested by the Helena Police Department. Briggs and Hortman were spotted in a wooded area in front of Telfair State Prison in Helena. They were searched by police and items found in backpacks and coolers included tobacco, cigarettes, rolling papers, marijuana, cell phones, cell phone chargers, and a hacksaw. The Ogletree's arrived during suspect questioning and were arrested.
On Sunday, August 7, 2011, Jennifer Lakes was arrested by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office. She was at Hays State Prison in Trion to visit an inmate when her vehicle was searched. Officers found marijuana and tobacco. The Georgia State Patrol also assisted.
On Sunday, August 7, 2011, Ronda Brazell was arrested by the Glennville Police Department. During visitation at Smith State Prison in Glennville, an officer observed her giving something to an inmate. Brazell turned over balloons of marijuana.
On Sunday, August 7, 2011, Shannon Spinale was arrested by the Lowndes County Sheriff's Department. An officer observed her throwing a package out of her vehicle near Valdosta State Prison in Valdosta. The package contained cell phones and tobacco.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
