Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities

On Monday, April 4, 2011, Correctional Officer Katrina Tuft was arrested at Baldwin State Prison in Hardwick. She was unable to clear the metal detector and searched by officers. Tuft gave officers marijuana, tobacco, rolling papers and cigars that were hidden underneath her shirt. The Baldwin County Sheriff's Department assisted.

On Friday, April 22, 2011, Trey Asberry was arrested at Valdosta State Prison in Valdosta. An officer spotted Asberry on prison property and called the Lowndes County Sheriff's Department. In his possession were cell phones and chargers and tobacco.

On Saturday, April 23, 2011, Catherine Johnson was arrested at Macon State Prison in Oglethorpe. She was at the facility visiting an inmate when she unable to clear the metal detector. Officers found marijuana and tobacco in her possession. The Macon County Sheriff's Department assisted.

On Saturday, April 23, 2011, Bobby Anthony Bell was arrested at Valdosta State Prison in Valdosta. An officer spotted Bell hiding on prison property and called the Lowndes County Sheriff's Department. In his possession were two large bags containing cell phones and chargers and tobacco.

On Sunday, April 24, 2011, Erica Pruitt was arrested at Hays State Prison in Trion. She was at the facility visiting an inmate when cell phones were found in her possession. After her arrest, marijuana was also found in her possession. The Chattooga County Sheriff's Office assisted.

The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
