Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
On Saturday, March 19, 2011, Terry Mann was arrested at Hays State Prison in Trion. Mann was at the facility to visit an inmate when he was unable to clear a metal detector at the front entry. A cellphone and tobacco were found in his possession. The Chattooga County Sheriff's Office assisted.
On Monday, March 21, 2011, officers at Telfair State Prison in Helena noticed a man on prison property. Once spotted, the man ran and jumped into a vehicle, which was later stopped by the Dodge County Sheriff's Office. The man was identified as probationer Justin McHone. Drugs were found in his possession and he was arrested. Three other people in the vehicle were taken in for questioning. Officers at Telfair later found contraband in the area where they first spotted McHone. They found a fire extinguisher filled with marijuana, cell phones, batteries, tobacco and rolling paper. The Telfair County Sheriff's Office also assisted.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
