Several correctional officers and another employee of the prison system were recently arrested and charged with various crimes involving providing illegal items to inmates.

The Tattnall County Narcotics Team, Department of Corrections (Internal Affairs Intel Unit), Warden Brad Hooks of Rogers State Prison and Warden Don Jarriel of Georgia State Prison, conducted a joint investigation of officers selling marijuana, cell phones and tobacco products to inmates inside the local prisons.

As a result of this investigation, several arrests have been made and several other officers have resigned from the prison.

On May 28, 2010, Cullen Heath Gay, II, 20, of Reidsville, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana more than one ounce and conspiracy to commit a crime.

On July 13, 2010, Michael Terrell Miller, 21, of Lyons was arrested and charged with giving inmates items without the Warden's consent, trading with inmates without permission and crossing guard lines.

On August 2, 2010, Andrae Javon Bell, 27, of Soperton was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana more than one ounce, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and conspiracy to commit a crime.

On August 3, 2010, Bobby Brown, 40, of Lyons was arrested and charged with criminal attempt (giving convicts items without consent).

On August 6, 2010, Leroy Ball, 23, of Statesboro was arrested and charged with criminal attempt.

Tattnall County Sheriff Quinton Rush would like to commend his officers and the Department of Corrections personnel on a job well done in accomplishing this investigative task. Rush stated it was another good example of local agencies working together.

**The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.**
