Smith State Prison hosts 7th Annual Korean Ministry Luncheon

Over 40 Korean volunteers participate

FORSYTH, Ga. – On August 25, Smith State Prison hosted its 7th Annual Korean Prison Ministry Luncheon. Over 40 Korean volunteers from New York, Metropolitan Atlanta, Southeast Georgia and other surrounding areas participated in the event.

“We are grateful for our partnership with the Korean ministry members who put on this event each year,” said Commissioner Dozier. “It is a positive and moving experience for both the offender population and the staff at Smith State Prison.”

Entertainment for the event was provided by a group of six traditional Korean dancers in full traditional costumes, a Korean Ministry member playing the ocarina, and the Smith State Prison offender ensemble. The guest speaker was Pastor William Givens who shared the message, "God cares about you, God thinks about you, and God forgives you. He can work in your life and he can change your heart."

The ministry members and cooks who participate in the Annual Law Enforcement Dinner in Tattnall County, Ga., prepared the tradition Korean meal for the entire offender population and guests. The ministry members also provided breakfast to the entire population.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
