Dozier announced the promotion of Paulette Tompkins to Director of Library Services for Inmate Services Academic Education Unit effective March 1st.  Tompkins will be responsible for overseeing all offender library services throughout the state.

“Tompkins’ 30 years of educational experience will help us develop the offender library services program,” said Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier. “We look forward to seeing the program grow under her leadership.”

Tompkins began her educational career in 1984 as a Middle School Science teacher in the Glynn County School System. In 1989 she served as the Middle Georgia Regional Education, Drug Free Schools and Health Consultant.  In 1993, she was promoted to Assistant Principal for Discipline for the Houston County School System and in 1997 she was promoted to the Elementary School Principal, where she proudly served for 17 years.  In 2016, Tompkins began her career with the GDC as a librarian at Dooly State Prison, where she currently serves.

Tompkins earned a Bachelor of Science, Master of Education and Education Specialist degree from Georgia Southern College. Paulette has also received a Reading Endorsement from Georgia Southern University and a Gifted Endorsement from Middle Georgia Regional Service Agency.  She represented the state of Georgia in Washington, D.C. as Georgia’s National Distinguished Principal in 2004 and was recognized as a high performing principal by the Georgia Department of Education.
