New Deputy Warden of Security Named at Coastal State Prison

Michael Anderson Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Michael Anderson to Deputy Warden of Security at Coastal State Prison, effective February 1, 2018. As Deputy Warden, Anderson will be responsible for overseeing 248  staff at the facility housing over 1,800 medium security male offenders.

“Anderson has dedicated over 20 years to the agency, where he worked his way up through the ranks,” said Commissioner Dozier. “We look forward to the expertise and leadership he will bring to Coastal State Prison.”

Anderson began his career with the Department in 1996 as a Correctional Officer at Smith State Prison.  In 2000, he transferred to Rogers State Prison and rose through the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain.  He was promoted to Chief of Security (Major), in 2015.  In 2017, he was promoted to Unit Manager at Georgia State Prison, where he currently serves.

Anderson has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), Advanced Management Training (AMT), Hostage Negotiator Training and the Professional Management Program (PMP).

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
