Headquarters Employees of the Year Named - Graduates of GDC Special Agent Class Honored

FORSYTH, Ga.The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) honored the graduates of the GDC Special Agent Class as Employees of the Year at the 11th Annual GDC Awards ceremony on July 7 at State Offices South at Tift College in Forsyth, Ga.

“The GDC Special Agent course is one of the most demanding classes a law enforcement officer can complete,” said Commissioner Homer Bryson. “We are proud of each of the graduates who accepted the challenge of the course and represented the department with pride and professionalism.”

Graduates of the course are Shawn Corley, Bryant Hill, Donald Jones, Tomekia Jordan, Mark Kinservik, John Moore, Angie Pittman, Milton Smith, Daniel Lyle Wilkes, and Patrick Wolfe.

In 2014, the GDC Special Agent Class entered into a training partnership with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations in an effort to elevate the training standards for the GDC Criminal Investigations Unit to the highest in the country.  This joint training was rigorous and required commitment and personal sacrifice from the agents.  Each of the agents distinguished themselves with dignity and honor. As a result of the training, a positive outlook of the GDC Criminal Investigations Unit has been established within the law enforcement community.

The Headquarters Employee of the Year award recipients promote positive relations with co-workers, offenders, the judiciary, volunteers, partners and the community by continuously displaying courtesy, dignity and respect.

Several key officials were on hand for the ceremony, which was attended by more than 200 guests.  Making the award presentation with Commissioner Homer Bryson were Assistant Commissioner of Administration & Finance Scott Poitevint, Assistant Commissioner of Facilities Division Timothy C. Ward, and Board of Corrections Chair Rose Williams.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
