Facility Supervisor of the Year Named - Sergeant Robert Waring of Augusta Transitional Center Honored
FORSYTH, Ga. — The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) honored Sergeant Robert Waring of Augusta Transitional Center as Facility Supervisor of the Year at the 11th Annual GDC Awards ceremony on July 7 at State Offices South at Tift College in Forsyth, Ga.
“Robert is an exceptional leader and dependable Sergeant,” said Commissioner Homer Bryson. “He always works hard to motivate his officers.”
The Faciliy Supervisor of the Year award is presented to a supervisor who exemplifies leadership by always supporting shift and facility missions. The honor is awarded to a supervisor who mentors new employees, volunteers for additional responsibilities and consistently promotes security and safety.
Waring began his career with the Department in 1999 as a Correctional Officer at Augusta State Medical Prison. Waring exhibits outstanding efforts and motivation toward positive job performance. He demonstrates loyalty to the facility and to the Department’s mission. Sergeant Waring mentors new employees as well as other supervisors, and volunteers for extra duties, and carries an unconventional load of responsibilities in the facility. He consistently displays concern, courtesy, and respect.
Several key officials were on hand for the ceremony, which was attended by more than 200 guests. Making the award presentation with Commissioner Homer Bryson were Assistant Commissioner of Administration & Finance Scott Poitevint, Assistant Commissioner of Facilities Division Timothy C. Ward, and Board of Corrections Chair Rose Williams.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
