New Warden Named at Washington State Prison - T.J. Conley Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. — Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of T.J. Conley as the Warden of Washington State Prison effective May 1, 2015. As Warden, Conley will be responsible for overseeing 287 staff members and 1,432 medium security male inmates at the facility located in Davisboro, Ga.
“T.J. has shown great leadership as a Deputy Warden of Security,” said Commissioner Homer Bryson. “We know he will continue to demonstrate that same level of leadership in his new role as Warden.”
Conley began his career with the Department in 1985 as a Correctional Officer at Augusta State Medical Prison (SMP). Conley rose through the ranks at Augusta SMP, being promoted to Sergeant in 1992, promoted to Lieutenant in 1993, and promoted to Unit Manager in 1999. In 2002, Conley was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at Phillips State Prison. In early 2004, Conley transferred to Al Burruss Correctional Training Center to serve as the Deputy Warden of Security. In September of 2004, Conley was promoted to Superintendent of Augusta Diversion Center. Upon the closure of Augusta Diversion Center in 2007, Conley was transferred to Augusta SMP as the Deputy Warden of Security, where he most recently served.
Conley earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology/Criminology from Paine College. During his career with the Department, Conley has completed Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), POST IT, Correctional Leadership Institute (CLI), Pre-Command and Deputy Wardens of Security Academy.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
