New Statewide Tier Segregation Manager Named - Otis Stanton Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. — Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Otis Stanton as Statewide Tier Segregation Manager for Facilities Operations, effective January 1, 2015. As Manager, Stanton will be responsible for the processing of Tier segregation appeals and the training and oversight of the Tier Management System at all Level V facilities.
“Otis has over 16 years of experience working in various positions within the Department,” said Commissioner Owens. “The skills he has attained throughout his career will serve him well in his new management role.”
Stanton began his career with the Department in 1998 as a Program Manager of the Georgia Statewide Academic Medical Systems (GSAMS) Program at Metro State Prison. In 1999, Stanton was promoted to Counselor at Rockdale-Dekalb Probation Detention Center. In 2000, Stanton was promoted to Probation Officer in the Atlanta Probation Office-Court Services Unit. In 2006, Stanton was promoted to Examiner in the Offender Administration Unit and in 2014, he was promoted to Inmate Classification Supervisor, where he most recently served.
Stanton earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Brewton-Parker College and a Master of Public Administration degree from Central Michigan University. Stanton is a member of the American Association of Public Administrators and is currently in the dissertation phase of his Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration at Walden University.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and over 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
