9 Inmates Earn a GED at Rogers State Prison

Graduates honored

FORSYTH, Ga. Rogers State Prison, in Reidsville, Ga., held it’s first GED graduation for the year on February 25 for a total of nine inmates. The ceremony was to honor these inmates, who completed the 12-month GED program.

“Education is key in the success of these offenders once they are released,” said Commissioner Bryson. “It is our job to ensure that we provide educational and vocational opportunities to the men and women incarcerated within our corrections system across the state.”

The GED program measures an individual’s aptitude in science, mathematics, social studies, reading and writing. Inmates, who do not meet the criteria for the Charter School program, are afforded the opportunity to earn a GED in lieu of a high school diploma.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
