Stacy Rivera Named New Director of Reentry Services
Forsyth - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Stacy Rivera as Director of Reentry Services effective May 1, 2013. As Director of Reentry Services, Rivera will oversee Reentry Services, Chaplaincy and Risk Reduction Services to include Cognitive Behavioral, Counseling, Substance Abuse, Academic Education, Workforce Development and Research Evaluation and Assessment Development.
"Stacy has gained a wealth of knowledge and experience from the various positions she has held within the Department," said Commissioner Owens. "She is truly an asset to our Department and I look forward to her leadership within this new role.
Rivera began her career in law enforcement in 1985 at the Muscogee County Sheriff's Department. In 2000, she joined the Department as a Probation Officer at the Columbus Probation Office. She transferred to the Macon Probation Office in 2005, where she supervised and tracked offenders ordered to drug court. In 2006, she was promoted to Probation Officer III and was promoted in 2009 to Chief Probation Officer of the Macon Judicial Circuit, where she was instrumental in establishing the Macon Community Impact Program through her work with the Macon Reentry Coalition. She was reassigned as Chief Probation Officer of the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit in 2011, where she most recently served.
Rivera earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Columbus State University and has completed Peace Officer Standards and Training, Instructor Training, Basic Management Training, Cognitive Leadership Training, Corrections Leadership Institute and Pre-Command.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
