Intelligence Division

The Intelligence Division is comprised of two subordinate units: The Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) and the Digital Forensics Unit (DFU).

Criminal Intelligence Unit

The mission of GDC’s Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) is to identify, reduce and prevent criminal ac-tivity by collecting, storing, assessing, and disseminating criminal intelligence information. CIU also provides criminal investigative support to the GDC Investigative Units, GA Information Sharing Anal-ysis Center (GISAC), High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), and numerous outside law en-forcement agencies. The CIU also utilizes Analysts to monitor the inmate financial systems for crimi-nal activity. The CIU initiated 8507 cases that included 2,057 Background Investigations, 3,306 Re-quests for Information, 571 Intelligence Reports, and 2,573 Intelligence Submissions.

Digital Forensics

The Digital Forensics Unit (DFU) is responsible for the acquisition and analysis of digital evidence, to include computers and cell phones. DFU Special Agents, Analysts and Technicians leverage state of the art technology and specialized training to conduct and support criminal investigations and intelli-gence operations. The DFU began operation on April 2, 2018, the result of a partnership with SECURUS Technologies. The DFU is responsible for the acquisition and analysis of digital evidence, to include computers and cell phones. Since its inception the DFU has processed 760 cell phones and provided the CIU with leads for 261 cases.
